The District Act outlines the structure function and operations of the district’s Board of Directors, which governs the district and directs the directs the Board Appointed Officers. The board is composed of seven members; each elected from equally divided district’s drawn through a formal process (click to enlarge map). Board members serve overlapping four-year terms and elect a new chair and vice-chair annually.
As required by state law, the district must redraw its boundaries to reflect 2010 Census results and this process must be completed by the end of 2011. To assist with the completion of a redistricting study in an inclusive, transparent and comprehensive manner, and to get community input on redistricting, the Board of Directors has commissioned a Census Redistricting Advisory Committee. The committee is comprised of seven community leaders from throughout Santa Clara County.
