Santa Clara Valley Water District to establish new district boundaries

On February 25, 2009, Assembly Member Joe Coto introduced AB 466 to amend the Santa Clara Valley Water District Act.   Among the amendments, AB 466 replaced the current Board of Directors structure with a structure where all seven Board members would be elected from new districts that would be drawn through a formal redistricting process that must be completed by June 30, 2010.  This deadline allows elections in four of the newly-created districts (Districts 1, 4, 6, and 7) to be held during Click to downlard large county map of current 5 districtsthe November 2010 general election. The remaining three new districts would hold elections during the November 2012 general election.

The creation of new districts requires a redistricting study, to ensure that the seven newly drawn districts meet the one-person, one-vote test and to ensure compliance with the federal Voting Rights Act. To assist with the completion of this redistricting study in an inclusive, transparent, and comprehensive manner, the Board of Directors created an independent Redistricting Advisory Committee comprised of seven community leaders from throughout Santa Clara County.
